Dr. John Forsyth has appeared on TV, radio, and varied news outlets to discuss anxiety disorders, stress, and the alleviation of various forms of emotional and psychological suffering using mindfulness-based practices.  Dr. Forsyth has appeared on The Bay Sunday Show, Oakland CA, Capital News 9, At Issue Ben Merens, Wisconsin Public Radio, Dr. Alvin Jones Show, Turning the Tide Show with Maggie Pascal (Episode #162), The Michael Dresser Show, The Kathryn Zox Show, and in articles in Time Magazine and The Albany Times Union. 

He is an internationally recognized leader in the science and practice of a newer mindfulness-based behavior therapy called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (or ACT), and related streams that include mindfulness practices from Buddhist and Eastern traditions (e.g., Metta or loving kindness, Tonglen or self/other compassion work), and strategies to help people live well, even with obstacles, problems, and pain.  His work is based on scientific evidence supporting ACT and mindfulness-based practices as a means to (a) alleviate many forms of human suffering, (b) restore of psychological health and wellness, and (c) to foster actions is the service of living well.  He also maintains a blog on Psychology Today.

John holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, and is a Professor of Psychology and Director the Anxiety Disorders Research Program at the University at Albany, SUNY in Upstate New York. He is a noted expert in ACT, mindfulness practices and psychological health, and anxiety and stress-related disorders.  He is also widely sought after ACT trainer and consultant and serves as a senior editor of the ACT book series with New Harbinger Publications.

John is the author of four popular books and regularly gives ACT talks and workshops to the public and professionals in the United States and abroad.  He also offers ACT trainings at the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies in Rhinebeck, NY, where he serves as a member of the teaching faculty.

He is known to infuse his interviews, talks, and trainings with energy, humility and compassion, and his down-to earth workshops are consistently praised for their clarity, depth and utility.

Collectively, his work has helped foster growing interest in acceptance and mindfulness in psychology, mental health, medicine, and society.
